A Medicare office that explains first
Founded in 2011 by a former hospital billing specialist who was tired of watching people choose plans they did not understand.
Our story
Denise Okafor spent nine years in patient billing at a downtown Indianapolis health system. Week after week she met patients who were surprised by a bill: a specialist outside their Advantage network, a drug that moved tiers in January, a Supplement they never bought because nobody told them the open window had closed.
In 2011 she opened Beacon with one desk on North Meridian Street and a simple rule: nobody leaves an appointment without understanding why a plan fits them. The name came from that idea. A beacon does not steer the ship. It makes the route visible.
Today Beacon is a team of five licensed advisors and client service staff serving Marion, Hamilton, Johnson, Hendricks and Madison counties. We still meet clients at kitchen tables, still host seminars at local libraries, and still pick up the phone ourselves.

Explain before we recommend
Every appointment starts with how Medicare works for you, not with a plan brochure. You should understand the trade-off before you choose.
Check every name
Doctors, hospitals, pharmacies and prescriptions are verified against each plan, every time. Directories are a starting point, not the answer.
Say so when nothing should change
About a third of our fall reviews end with no change. Staying put is a recommendation too.
Stay after the sale
Billing questions, lost ID cards and claim issues come to our client service desk, not a national call center.
